Tears, Tiaras And Transsexuals - The First TG Beauty Pageant

# 1 : Thursday 18-6-2009 @ 00:19

Its a very thought provoking Ch.4 documentary on the first beauty pageant for transsexuals.. being held in Las Vegas. One of the prizes is a starring role in a new Vegas Revue.

Did anyone watch this?

Jeremy Stanford takes a behind-the-scenes look at the first ever 'World's Most Beautiful Transsexual Pageant' in Las Vegas, meeting the six hopefuls who are attempting to realise their diva dreams.

With the dramatic competition to win the crown (and a starring role in a sensational new Vegas revue) as a high-stakes backdrop, the film explores the personal stories behind the pageant.

Provocative profiles and interviews document the always intriguing, sometimes moving and often humorous journeys of the contestants.

United by common histories of hardship and persecution, their ultimate triumph is a moving celebration of the human spirit.

Yeh I thought that too.

What came across to me as well was a very strong sense of community.

I really enjoyed what i saw of it (it wasnt over til 1 and I need my beauty sleep)
It was nice to see how many of them still had strong relationships with their families...the only one I thought was a bit strange was the black lady (from chicago) who was planning on going to the grave as a man seemingly for some religious type reason....

Yes, but as pointed out earlier.... it would have been more balanced to see the other side of that.
Not every TS enjoys that sort of accepting and loving relationship with their family.
I feel it would have done the 'TS cause' a lot more good to point up some of the prejudice that can come from within the family too....
Dunno, what do you fink Gaebo?
