This evening I went to www.rte.ie only to find that it had been replaced by a photo of a lady in sexy french maid outfit.



First I thought it had been hijacked, then I thought my browser was hijacked so I ran every internet toilet duck program I had.

Then I went to www.google.ie and found that it too had been replaced by a photo of Miss French Maid, even though I could access gaire, BBC, etc.

Eventually, I went to bloody yahoo search and found a thing on Boards.ie that said that the problem was Eircom's DNS servers, which have been sucking for the last week. When it fails, it returns a sexy maid photo (seriously) as a placeholder.

So they recommended that I switch to OpenDNS - which I did. But even after restarting the router, I still can't access google.ie

What to do? I can't internet without Google. I had to hold my nose when I went on Yahoo.

I was getting "cant find server" all night earlier on every place i went to,it was miffing me mightly,got no french maids though.

mine was playing up all evening aswell.i could only get google.

Butters, are you using eircom broadband?

Same and changed browsers from Firefox to Opera.
Lately Firefox just spins around.
Am on Eircom Broadband.

I am too, and I had problems with it tonight.

Connect to google direct using the ip:
64.233.187.99
Put that in your browser its the ip for google.com

Damn! wish I was on Eircom, could do with seeing a nice french maid pic!

My problem seems to be fixed now. Maybe it just took some time for the new DNS settings to kick in.

Anyway, the solution is to go to your eircom broadband router http://192.168.1.254/

Go to Expert Mode, Configure, Connection

and beside Primary DNS Server type in 208.67.222.222
and beside Secondary DNS Server type in 208.67.220.220

then click on Save and Restart Connection.

Shut down browser, say prayer to jeebus, restart. The fix worked for me about half an hour after I made the changes.

That sounds too complicated,things seem to have settled down.
