Speedos Banned At Alton Towers - Considered Indecent

# 1 : Monday 10-8-2009 @ 19:02

Alton Towers Waterpark in the UK have announced that male swimmers using ther pools are no longer allowed to wear speedos or any other kind of swimsuit other than full "board shorts". The management of the waterpark said that speedos were not "family friendly" or "appropriate." Men will also be strongly encouraged to wax their body hair at the resort.

I kid you not. Here's a link to the article:

You would think it was Borat style "Mankini" or g-string they were talking about. Is this PC prudery gone mad? Are we entering a new prudish Victorian era where full body thick woolen swimsuits are to be the order of the day?

Is it not just a little hypocritical/double standards that women swimmers can wear skimpy bikinis but men are now forbidden to even wear swimming trunks?

What do Gaireans think? Good riddance to the speedo or PC gone too far?

I think that's ridiculous.

As you say they are no more revealing than bikinis. Soooo stupid.

Well, in fairness there's not so much in a bikini that can be defined if you know what I mean. It's still ridiculous though.

Well in an "ideal world" we'd all be Barbie and Ken dolls, but we're not - Alton Towers management should deal with it.

It's a case of whoever is making the rule having a dirty mind. Men have genitals. Get over it.

When I was down in Bray one summer I was asked by the doorman to cover my 'boobs' before entering the amusements. I suppose one has to think of the children!

Well, women in the Swedish city of Malmo have won the right to use public swimming pools topless because they took a court case claiming it was discriminatory against women to have to cover their breasts when men could swim "topless."

But then, it IS Sweden...

The Alton Towers thing just beggars belief. I would have though it was an April Fools/silly season lark but no, it's true. The management are pandering to some sort of super-prudish agenda here.

Sounds as odd

I wonder what prompted them to such action? As it seems doubtful that they one day simply ban them without genuine reason/concern
