I was watching Transformers 2 this evening and there was a part in it where 2 of the robots were talking about what to do with one of the main characters friends.

Ok, so they are modelled on a pair of jive homeboys but to include comments like "ask your boyfriend" was kind of disturbing to me. Maybe I'm being over sensitive but I think if they said "shut up nigger" there would be uproar.

If anyone catches any other "hollywood" moments drop them here.

You obviously missed the uproar about those two characters, everyone was too busy noticing the stereotypes to pick up on that comment...

Paramount’s Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is making a killing at the box office, but the sequel to 2007’s blockbuster has fallen under fire for featuring two shape-shifting robots as “racial stereotypes,” according to The Associated Press.

Some filmgoers are complaining that Skids and Mudflap, who speak in street slang, cannot read, and sport gold teeth, are racial caricatures designed to poke fun at people of color.

It is a claim director Michael Bay vehemently denies.

“It’s done in fun. I don’t know if it’s stereotypes – they are robots, by the way,” he says. “These are the voice actors. This is kind of the direction they were taking the characters and we went with it… [They] were kind of written but not really written, so the voice actors is when we started to really kind of come up with their characters.”

Bay added: “Listen, you’re going to have your naysayers on anything. It’s like is everything going to be melba toast? It takes all forms and shapes and sizes.”

Actor Reno Wilson, the voice of Mudflap in the film, is defending his portrayal of the robot.

Mudflap, he says, is “an alien who uploaded information from the internet and put together the conglomeration.”

“If he had uploaded country music, he would have come out like that. It could easily be a Transformer that uploaded Kevin Federline data. They were just like posers to me.”

Thanks for the info gollum. I guess in context it could be taken as poking fun at people of colour but i feel that kids would identify with the "homies" an in doing so take on the negative junk they were spewing.

I did not know of the uproar about those said robots in the revenge of the fallen but it was so obviously a steriotype of street black culture. Good film though totally moronic but a visual treat.

Is it wise to be bothered by this, I am watching the American version of Life on Mars and this speak is all over the script as it was with the Sopranos. If you want the real story from a period piece or any tough drama I would rather the unsanitised piece warts and all.

EDIT I agree if the film or series has a U or 12 rating they should not be allowed to show demeaning stereotypes.

This was a PG-13 rated film.

The fact is that there are people like this, people who take the piss out of gays or people who talk in that American gagsta style. So long as it is used in a movie that is not being intentionally racist or homophobic in general intent i personally don't have a problem with it.
Now i don't know what context it was in because i have not seen any of the transformer movies but i don't have a problem with their being racist or bigoted characters in movies, i prefer movies to be Representative of every aspect of society.
I understand that being racist is stupid and i am also aware thee are many stupid people in the world. So to pretend it does not exist by eliminating all forms of bigotry from movies is not what i want to see.

If poking fun at people of colour (what am I? a person of no colour?) is all they have to complain about then they have it easy.

It's not as if people of colour were seriously being stereotyped as inferior, less worthy or more criminal-minded than people of no colour which they often are in other movies. If it was then there might me some grounds for complaint but as it stands then they can feck off and grow up.
