The most prominent that comes to mind would be Emma Donaghue... but don't think she lives in Ireland any more..

I remember reading a novel published by Poolbeg back in the 90's by a woman author but cannot remember her name or the name of the book. I think she was a lecturer in UCD, must see do I still have it and get her name...

Hmm. Doesn't sound like anyone's making an overwhelming case for lesbians contribution to contemporary Irish literature.

There may not be many Cheezy, but it does not mean they should be overlooked, ignored or dismissed, as you so blithely do above, in a supposedly inclusive event.. I am in no way up on Irish Lesbian Authors but did anybody actually bother to try and see who was out there to include?

That might have been Ailbhe Smyth- lecturer in WERRC/UCD, she was the 'leader' of last year's Gay Pride Parade. Katherine O'Donnell also of UCD, Mary Dorcey- how about some of the contributors to RAG or Women's News?

It might be too late at this stage but really, this is an inexcusable mistake; only contributors who are gay and male?
Next year is too late to fix this error and I notice that there has been no change to the schedule either (had some difficulty navigating this)

Don't think Ailbhe Smyth or Kathryn O'Donnell have written novels. You may be thinking of Emma Donoghue. (She lives in Canada these days, so bringing her over might have stretched the budget.)

I'm a little confused. People seem very annoyed that there is a discussion of Irish gay literature but that no Irish lesbian novelists are included. That seems like a legitimate point. However, no-one seems to be able to name a single lesbian novelist living in Ireland. That seems reasonable too - the only Irish lesbian author I can think of is Kate O'Brien, and doubtless we'd all be delighted (if quite surprised) if she were to turn up at Tallaght public library this Thursday night.

So in essence, we're annoyed that the folks at Tallaght library are holding an evening on gay literature, and we're OUTRAGED that they haven't invited any lesbian novelists living in Ireland, even though we're unable to name a single one whom they could invite. Perhaps we could refer this knotty problem to the People's Front of Judaea...?
