That's just ridiculous. They will not be allowed to fail at any cost and if morons keep transferring funds to foreign owned banks, they will increase the bailout costs (tax) to the taxpayer, i.e. YOU! Speculation = Realisation. Think about it!!

Unless these savings are very, very substantial (and if so, care to meet for drinks later?) along the lines of a soverign wealth fund or possibly Dermot Desmond's pension you have nothing to worry about leaving your money in AIB. In fact, if you intend doing business or getting a mortgage in Ireland you would be better off leaving the money with a big Irish bank.

In that instance the monies already invested in the banks would be lost and under the bank guarantee scheme the state would be liable for the deposits. Should that happen we might aswell put the chairs on the tables and turn out the lights as we're leaving the country.

The bank guarantee scheme already stopped a run on the banks, it will again, pretty soon they are going to dump their toxic assets on us, then the banks can raise money again in the money markets making them an attractive target for a foreign takeover. So why not take it all their toxic assets along with their good assets or at least a big equity stake. Then privatise them at a future date and recoup some of the NAMA inevitable massive losses.

The current banking crisis became really serious before Christmas 2008. What's taken you so long?

BTW, ever heard of the Deposit Guarantee Scheme?

Lucky you to have savings to move anywhere - frankly speaking I don't know why you started this thread, do we need to know about how you handle your personal finances?

I started this thread because I'm disgusted with the Irish banking sector. I am not going to risk my savings with any corrupt Irish bank nor keep propped up the fat cats who got up into this mess and who are still sitting in the boards of these banks. I also feel I have not been given the full information about how insolvent these banks are. September 2008 is a long time ago but given the problems other EU small countries are presently in, I am not going to risk a collapse of AIB and be depending on Cowen and Lenihan to pay back my savings. The Country is banjaxed and am not taking the risk, guarantee or no guarantee. My choice-just sharing my views, thought that was still a right in this banana state !
