I wonder what people think it should have on its schedule? As one contributor on the thread said, "All Kylie, All the time?". It might serve as a marker for established media to have a certain amount of LGBT content?....

intwesting?

An open LGBT radio station shouldnt re-enforce all the usual stereotypes. Of course it should be aimed at the gay community with upcoming events, advice, etc. but 'all kylie, all the time,' talk about cliche! All the gays are not girly twinks who piss about the place.
The music should be the same as any other radio station, pop, rock, alternative, dance, hip hop etc. but just aimed at an LGBT audience.

Go to www.openfm.ie/schedule and submit What You Want To Hear on OpenFM There will be live programming from 10am to 10pm with 65/35 Talk/Music. I'm wondering why a radio station is styling itself as the "first licensed LGBT radio station". Are they expecting there to be a 2nd, and 3rd and so on?

I listen to the radio for various reasons, because I want music, chat, documentaries and interesting quirky programs fileled with useless information and for a whole variety of reason.

It's never occurred to me to listen to a radio station because it views itself as an LBGT station, and I just wonder what the content will be like. If it is interesting , then it's likely I'll listen.

On a wider note, I am uneasy with the LBGT community separating itself from the wider society. I'd prefer that to be lesbian or gay is seen as a normal part of society, rather than seen as trying to create a different society for ourselves.

The longer we identify ourselves as different, the longer it will be for others to identify us as different.

"First licensed LGBT radio station" is our rewording.
They said, as you saw in the blog:
Last year OpenFM became the first licensed radio station in Ireland which targeted to cater for the LGBT community in Dublin on FM and to the rest of the country/world online.

First thing first: we have had to differentiate because of the discrimination.
Let's end discrimination, and then the need to differentiate will disappear. Or let's pretend we are not discriminated still...

Ah wonderful, now I haven’t even heard this but I'm expecting great things – our community has many creative, energetic and opinionated people with diversity and variety being at the core of the ever growing lgbt population.

Wishing you all luck!

I wouldnt turn down one either

I'd expect my view of it all is a bit distorted though, less Veronica mars and more nancy drew (especially as both are female dectectives and nothing to do with a radio show)

List of positions (oh-er!) availible:
