Gay Politicians

Well, Varadkar being our first openly gay and non-white Taoiseach are newsworthy but he's smug and arrogant and whether he's up to the top job, only time will tell.

Leo as Minister for Health cut the mental health services budget by 30% which was inexcusable. I also oppose his Thatcherite, neo-liberal social and economic policy leanings. I would have preferred Coveney to win but his reserved nature probably worked against him. That and being from Cork!

Plus, Varadkar is younger than me by a few years so that makes me feel pretty old!

Election results: record number of LGBTQ MPs elected to Parliament

Another milestone was reached with the highest number of women ever elected to parliament.

British voters returned a record number of LGBTQ MPs to Parliament in the general election.

I agree with a lot of his policies. Something very charismatic about him. Leo the lion for the win

I think there is an enormous divide between people who know/have dealt with Leo on personal or close to basis and those who only know him from fawning press coverage.

Personally I don't understand how anyone could consider him charismatic.

A lion doesn't wait till everything is safe to roar. Leo has done exactly that in every single instance. I hope he can redeem himself as Taoiseach. I doubt he can.

In France the number of openly gay MP's (all men) has more than doubled: from 2 to 5.
That's less than 1% of the MP's, to compare with the just under 7% in the UK.

It may be quite important in the months to come: this assembly will not go back on universal marriage, but it may refuse to enable MAP for all women.

MAP?

MAP = Medically assisted procreation.
(IVF for instance)

Not to be confused with surrogacy (gestation by proxy/others), which will not be on the French agenda for a long time, for ethical reasons deeply held by the French Left.

(It is often confused in France where the term "surrogacy" does not exist.
MAP = PMA in French.
Surrogacy = GPA in French.)
