It's said that everyone can remember where they were on September 11th 2001, just like everyone can remember where they were when JFK was shot.

So where were you when you heard the news?

30 YO GAY MALE FROM DUBLIN

I was in secondary school - fifth year. School was finished for the day and my dad was waiting to give me and my brother a lift home. This was unusual because we only lived a ten minute walk from the school. As soon as we got into the car, he told us that a plane had crashed into the towers. It didn't make any sense until we saw the Sky News feed when we got home. Even then, it didn't make much sense.

I was at work when I heard a plane had crashed into the world trade centre. Stupidly I assumed it was only a small plane and it was no big deal. At teh time I didn't have Internet access at work, I only realised how bad it was when I went home and watched the news.

When I first saw it on the TV I was in Macari's getting a bag of chips.

Didn't fully realise the full effects of it until I got home.

I think I had just started college or was to that week / the following week.

I was in work and a customer told me a small plane had crashed into the World Trade centre. It was only when I went home for lunch that saw the really what can be called unbelieveable and surreal scenes.
It's still quite shocking.

I was working on the 13th floor of a building in London city, the girl who told us had a sister working for a news desk of the daily mail and had also told us previously that Gerry Adams has been assassinated and the queen was dead amongst other made up stories so nobody believed her.

When it turned out to be true, I spent the rest of the day convinced I could hear planes flying towards us.

I remember some people overeacted like crazy. Some office buildings in Portugal were evacuated! As if Al Quaeda was gonna fly planes into every building in the West!

I was working nights that week. I remember getting up at about 2pm that afternoon. I always switched on Sky News anyway and saw the live news feed from the World Trade Centre. I saw live footage of the 2nd place hitting the 2nd tower. I spent rest of the day watching the news keeping up to date as to what was going on.

I was in work and I laughed when I first heard it, only realised how bad it was when the radio station was taken over by Sky News. Plus my shift was from 1pm to 10pm so I didn't see any footage until about 11 that night.

I was at home and My Mum came running into the kitchen to call me to watch it about 3 or 4pm . After about an hour I went to work in a supermarket and people were coming in stunned and buying the herald and telling me about the second plane. It was hard to believe there had been a second plane.

I think I remember there was an Irish national day of mourning a few days later - is that correct?

Yea, it was a Friday and I remember in work everyone who didn't work on Friday's going nuts. They kind of missed the point really.

I was actually driving to the Italian GP at Monza (from Spain). I changed the radio channel and came across an English speaking one which mentioned as soon as I had turned it on that the twin towers had collapsed. I dismissed it as some comedy show and switched back to my music.

I only discovered the reality when we stopped at a restaurant several hours after the event.
