Bodies Exhibition Is Coming To Dublin

# 1 : Monday 19-1-2009 @ 19:38

I know this exhibition is extremely controversial. I saw it when it was in Budapest last year, and found it to be very interesting.

Now, I'm extremely squeamish, and i was very apprehensive about this when it was suggested that we should go, but i ended up really enjoying the exhibit.

Will you go?

I missed it in London and New York (by days both times), so will definitely be going to see this.

Nope, won't be going. Some of the bodies are from unknown sources; people's bodies being used without the person's consent.

This is not the same exhibition as that of Gunther von Hagens

"The Bodies exhibition caused controversy in the US when it was revealed that some of the bodies involved were unidentified or unclaimed, which means neither the people involved nor their families had provided consent for their preservation or use in the exhibition." Check out the story here...

The article finishes with the paragraph...

The German anatomist, who appeared in a Channel 4 documentary, now states he only uses bodies belonging to those who declared during their lifetime that their bodies should be made available after their deaths for medical or educational purposes.

Yeah, i saw that today too. I didn't know about it when we went the first time. It was still an extremely interesting exhibit, all the controversy aside. I don't actually remember any of the signs they mention in the newspaper article.

I saw a similar exhibit - Body Worlds - a few years ago. Fascinating stuff altogether. Not morbid or gross in any way, I had to remind myself they were once real people.
But as far as I know all those were donated bodies (in fact there's a waiting list apparently).

wouldn't mind seeing this but the bodies are always seem to be put in random and odd poses! i wonder is it a case of once you see one plastinated body, you've pretty much seen the rest?

I'd be interested in seeing it. I believe there is an exhibit showing the difference between a person who was a lifelong smoker and one who wasn't.
