Do you test drive your lovers?
Or have you ever test driven them?

Have you ever started a relationship that you were not sure about, or did not feel had any chance, and keep going till you are sure there is nothing?
Or do you always only start something if there is a spark.

Also, have you ever test driven more than one lover at a time, and picked the one that worked best?

No. They tend to test drive me, then drive me into the ground, then trade me in!

Seriously though, there always has to be something in their personality that draws me into a relationship with them, so once I identify what that attribute is, then its a natural process of relationship building.

Test drive? Im not sure that even qualifies as a euphemism.

No i would never test drive, i was brought up to respect people and their feelings. If your not sure about someone then its probably a fairly obvious sign that you shouldnt be in the relationship. Get out of the relationship and let them find someone else, anything else would be cruel and unusual punishment

In my own past expereinces there has always been a spark for anything to begin. I suspect that's similar for many people.

I'll turn the question around slightly, I've never really started a relationship that I was sure about. I think it takes a while to get to know someone and discover their personality. I wouldn't call it a test drive, unless you're referring to the sex .

My sentiments exactly. People are not toys to be played with.

But is it as black and white as that Trep? Is it not in our nature to choose the most suitable mate, even on an unconcious level?

Yes, that's very true. However, to quote Blah...

Have you ever started a relationship that you were not sure about, or did not feel had any chance, and keep going till you are sure there is nothing?
Or do you always only start something if there is a spark.

Call me old-fashioned if you like, but I prefer to wait to see if there is a spark BEFORE embarking on a relationship.

I did.
But when I met the one, I knew instantly that he was the one.
When test driving, I knew that it was not going anywhere. But like with cars, sometimes it is worth going for a drive even if we do not intend to buy.

THAT, I do not agree. Human emotions are not to be trifled with. You couldn't possibly compare people to cars.

Do not worry, it is not like the other party was under any illusion either. We both knew what the deal was.

I suppose that is the way some relationship based on "mutual benefits" start, as opposed to relationships based on "mutual love".
