Gossip is a from of discourse, and malicious gossip is usually shrouded in terms of modality, heresay and scandal. By modality I mean 'she could have' or 'he maybe has' or 'she might have' - all to often these terms become 'she did'....
Gossip hinges not on what you're talking about, but the way in which you are talking about it.
There are certain people I know on this site whose 'personal currency' is information gleaned about other people.
And I've heard that these people will mail newbies with 'factual stories' about other members, this not too long after the newbies join up. I guess its a way of getting newbies on their side or becoming their friend.
But it just doesn't seem to me that someone who has to make friends that way could be a very nice person; well, the question has to be asked.. why can't they make friends in a more regular and less harmful manner?
In fairness PC, I have never been contacted by anyone on here who furnished me with details of another on here. I think this behaviour happens offline though. There were all kinds of allegations made on here re clicks and gossip... and in fairness it probably happens. But I think it goes over a lot of heads, and is based on personal issues that people on here have with each other.
