I remember people saying that 1980 or, later on, that 2000 was the "future". But when exactly is the "the future" are we living in the future now?

We all have our versions of the future, for me it was robots in the home and a Mars mission, but neither have happened yet...

I find myself comparing stuff that we have now to stuff that people had a century ago and I think how amazed they would be with it allm tv, cellphones, pootahs...

For me, there is no ONE future. There are many possible futures, depending on the decisions people make now. If you make decision A, then you will have the consequences and ramifications of decision A forming what is known as Future 1. Decision B? Future 2. No need to explain this. It's clear enough. Jetpacks WERE invented and tried, only to be deemed failures. They're just impractical for everyday use. Correct, 4Paul! Imagine if drunk people tried using them? It would quickly become a public health and safety issue! Likewise for hoverboards, Boyculture! The technology is there, (Hovercrafts, anyone?) only... not for personal use. Jetpacks, hoverboards, and Jupiterkid's comment... We IMAGINE the technology of the future, but very often they don't turn out the way we imagine. Hooray for that, I say. Sometimes they turn out MUCH better than we imagine. Tingles... perfect. Yes, we, in turn would be amazed by the technology of 2029.
