Yeah, advertising is my other pet hate when it comes to TV. Now I think about it, I do download or stream most programmes that I'd watch... Or request them as presents for christmas.

Why should I have to more not to watch the ads? I already pay enough NOT to watch my TV for most of the year because of reality TV.

Because without the ads your TV licence would cost a whole lot more.

Indeed. ITV & C4 are struggling and there could be a shift to in-programme sponsorship in an attempt to fill the financial hole. This and a contribution from our license fee. Folks viewing habits have changed.

Well if I want to avoid ads I do use my Sky + I'll purposly let a program start and then pause it to make a cuppa just so I have a enough time saved to FF the ads. So I can see how this is happening.

I have my book in my lap and read during the ads.

Or do like Hex does and pause earlier on so I can forward thru the ads.

I understand, but think it's cheaper for me to ditch the TV altogether and just stream the non-advert and reality show filled programs from my PC. In fact it's worth looking into, I'll even buy a new fancy McSchmnacy monitor to watch them on with my cable and license savings.

That won't work I don't think, for the license, I'm sure I saw somewhere that loophole is being blocked.

What license savings?

Over here the only player in town at the moment is the BBC. They have been cash rich for quite a while with no advertising pressure and they are also contributing heavily to ITV/C4's predicament. The BBC are already cutting back and I agree that license fee money should go to the ITV/C4 network. We have lost that balance, ITV/C4 was always a breaking ground for fringe/indie talent moreso than the BBC, it would be a shame to lose it. You only have to look at the Film4 archives to the the breadth of talent. BBC3 in the main sucks.

Those this mean that drama could, possibly use advertisements within the programs, hence taking away from the true intent of the drama/comedy/enterainment. Oh shit I hope not, I actually watch adds and try and work out the demographic their are trying to reach, and what they are actually not saying about a product and who should buy it, and some are actually very entertaining. I still wouldn't buy off any of them though.
