OK I'm not knocking the chattie threads, or any thing else, I mean I love the chattiness of gaire, but sometimes I wished that we could have one thread that was sensible in the top twenty threads, Most people hear are intelligent and had points of views, but it just seems like banter right now. I don't mean to be mean, but maybe it is my frame of mind that is thinking this way. Is anyone else feeling the same, if not that is fine.

Tonight does seem to be more chatty than usual, but you could haul up other threads \i suppose.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean pix, I often go on gaire and take a look at the top topics and basically logg off soon after because they are the same old things and that bores me a bit, but the thing is when I try to think of an interesting topic to start I just draw blanks!

ye have no idea how much of a turn off this is for newbies tryin to join in - and thats straight from the horses mouth of one who left. its complete scyophantic behaviour. there have been very interesting threads brought up but because the poster is not known - then chat reverts back to another thread. there are people on here who will only reply when someone 'known' to them makes a post. totally childish behaviour on a website that is supposed to welcome and encourage others. also personal jibes on things that no one else has a clue about. granted many people have built up personal friendships over the years and should maybe push for a chat line on this site.

Too much chat from the same people in different threads can be annoying, and it has been happening a lot the last month.

But I was totally guilty of this during the first few months I joined, so can't really judge.

Like, chat in topics doesn't annoy me, it's only when it's the same few people posting the exact same rubbish in different threads.

There is a point here.. But I find in general here that threads on topics usually stay pretty much on topic, other threads are more banter and chat and for those sometimes you just have to dive in..

whats annoying stewie is when you have member a,b,c,d, goin on and on talking shite and then member e will make a decent contribution but a,b,c, and d have to keep us the stupid chat, ignore what was said by 'e' and just use the thread to have a bit of personal fun with each other. so why dont these people just go ahead and push hard for a chat site. people who want to stay on thread can take part in the thread.

Yes, on the whole, the moderators are doing a very good job. Once or twice I was given a friendly warning to cut back on the spam.

You have a point there, Anfor, it depends on the threads. some topics lend themselves very much to chats, whereas other, more serious, threads are pretty much on topic.

I think the issue is more what Jonnybgud was referring to... the ignoring of people who make good contributions, in the midst of all the chatting.

I think myself, most of the time, I just go with the flow. Serious? Serious. Bantering? If i'm in the mood, i dive right in. If not, I don't post, simple as.

Just did, well it was 7 mins, but I guess that was a goal for me. anyway back on topic yeah JonnhyBgud made a very good point, as did stewie, and interpid, if chatty is a, b and c, when d comes in with something serious thing to say, eg bringing it back on topic, but a, b and c continue on with the banter, there is no point in d actually posting, is there?
