Willie O'Dea Quits!

# 1 : Thursday 18-2-2010 @ 21:02

The President has accepted the resignation of Minister for Defence Willie O'Dea.

In a letter, the minister said he had come to the conclusion that his continuing in office would distract from the important and vital work of the Government.

In reply, Taoiseach Brian Cowen thanked the former minister for his hard work and commitment.

No he had to leave that in the Dail Bar. Word has it, Joan Burton is going to use it to string some vocal chords together.

He slagged off a Shinner.
This is what brings people to resign in Ireland - telling the truth about gangster scum.
Not people dying in hospital corridors, not schools falling apart, not waves of emigration, not completely screwing the country, but telling the truth about scum the FFers are quite happy have support them in their double-dealing ways.

Watch him top the poll next time. The sheep will triumph again.
Baa.

There was no way he could stay on.

That level of political attacks is illegal for good reason.

What he said was not true - but an apology should have been enough. He was one of the good ones.....real shame.

What he said was not true

It was a little more than that - he deliberately lied, in a written document, under oath, to a High Court judge. That sort of thing gets you six months in Mountjoy to reflect on the error of your ways.

And he's not resigning for the good of the country - he's resigning because tomorrow's Cork Examiner is going to publish the transcripts of what he said to the journalist and what he testified to the High Court. Much like Iris Robinson, he's just getting his resignation in a few hours before he becomes toast.

I always liked him, but you cant attack an opponent like that. Im mean what was he thinking? He was a sitting TD with loads of popularity he didnt need to go to that level....

All political careers end in failure. While this isnt the end of Willy O Dea, I think he will be a TD as long as he wants, it was a pretty damm crap way to leave the cabinet.

@Parker O!!! Going to buy that tomorrow!
