Well both Ice and real.lady make good points - there is no doubt that this is a significant problem, but at the same time, all that talk of procreation is a little creepy - each strata of society creates its own modes of transmission, and unfortunately, just as wealth and prosperity are transmitted, so are social problems and behaviours. 'Scumbag' is also a very Dublin term that I never fully understood. I totally take Ice's points, it just makes me so sad and disheartened that different 'codes' operate and perpetuate
. Social eugenics would solve a lot of society's problems, but introduce so many also.
After all, at some point, the term 'scumbag' becomes relative - what follows on, the less educated (ie 'stupider'), the less sucessful (ie 'failure'), the less beautiful (ie uglier), the less genetically well-constituted (ie 'inferior') Class is necessary, at least in terms of how human society is currently organised, but never absolute. Social issues and negative behaviours exist across the societal board. Everyone is a 'scumbag' depending upon the criteria used. Dont get me wrong - there were plenty of times particularly in the city when I was unsettled and uncomfortable and frightened of certain people, and Im not condoning anything, its just that even the worst people can be victims of systems so endemic and permeated that even they can not perceive them, invisible and imperceptible prisons.
