Hot news!

The Government is giving away free cheese to people in need of cheese this Christmas!

Will you be hoping to get some?

Via RTE:

Free cheese for people in need

People in need are to be given free cheese through an EU scheme.

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries & Food Brendan Smith said a substantial quantity of cheese would be available for distribution by voluntary organisations from Monday week.

Mr Smith said the EU-funded scheme would enable Irish cheese to be bought and distributed to deprived citizens in the community.

They missed a trick. A free christmas cake or a tin of Quality Street would have been much better.

In fairness who doesn't like cheese. And it can be used on sandwiches and burgers and melted down for nachos and even cut into amusing little cubes to be enjoyed by all at social gatherings. Although I hate that plastic easy cheese crap.

It may come as news to certain posters here but the Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991. The GDR seceded from the eastern bloc in 1990 and joined West Germany - not the other way around. I am shocked an appalled at this latest example of communistic state interference in the free market. Today cheese, tomorrow all footstuffs, the day after cars, computers, electronics and before you know it you'll be humming The Internationale and driving a Trabant.

O'Connell Street next year unless we put a stop to this tomknavery

Free cheese from the cheese mountain all held in frozen food stores through out the union "the intervention" as I heard someone call it. CAP add about 25 euros to the average family shopping bill, so its time the "EU gives back"
It better be nice cheese.

They're missing a trick - they should give out brioche instead. Preferably hurled out of the window of a State car at the peasantry.

What happened in France when Marie Antoinette declared let them have cheese and eat it, after hearing the peasants had no food to eat that unfortunate year!
