Anyone else watching The Returned? It's a French horror drama running on Channel 4 at the minute, about a town where people suddenly come back from the dead.

It's really great. Well worth a watch. And, as foreign language TV goes, much better than the overlong THe Killing.

Love it. Need to catch up on episode 6 this week.

I think Season 1 is just 8 episodes long

It is, which I actually think is good. 20+ episode seasons always have filler in them and drag everything out so much. The Returned thankfully doesn't do that.

I tried finding it online to watch, I hate waiting and couldn't find it. So I read a little ahead, kinda raging now.

I was reading a bit about one of the characters and I was thinking I should stop now, this is around up to what I have seen but I couldn't stop and I was like OM-Guhh .

Apparently you shouldn't read the Wikipedia article on The Returned because it has end of series spoilers on it.

Season 1?
I started it next week and am almost finished season 2 now. It's pretty addictive.

It gets a bit ludicrous as it goes on but it's the good kind of ludicrous.

Yeah just on series 1, it's better than I expected.

It's a lot more fun than I expected. I had thought Luther himself would be one of those insufferably moody and alcoholic detectives that always show up in things like this.

Just watching the final episode now. Could not stop laughing at Alice's line: 'Some little girls want a pony when they grow up. I always wanted to be a widow.'

I'm only on the fourth episode of series 1. I think I'm slightly in love with Alice Morgan.

The Returned ended with a strong series finale but really, one suspects that the writers have kicked to touch for now. The look and sound of the show is very good but I don't think the writing is great.

In other news, Jane Campion's New Zealand tv drama Top Of The Lake is well-written and beautifully shot - and what a cast! Peter Mullen at his menacing best, Holly Hunter as an eccentric guru and Elizabeth Moss - Peggy Olsen from Mad Men - in the lead role.
