NEW - Dublin Non Scene Meetups For Gay Men & Women Established - Dublin International Gay Social Group (D.I.G.S.)

# 136 : Wednesday 27-4-2011 @ 20:02

I think my problem is partly that with all of its faults, the scene is at least open in a way that a group, whether that's gaire or the one in this thread simply are not. There's a great deal to be said about being able to walk into a pub and know that it's a safe gay venue without having to check when the next time the queers are let in for a while.
Amittedly the scene isn't anywhere near perfect, but then what is?

I love the idea. You have to agree though that he isn't handling questions and criticism very well.

I guess the best thing though is for people to attend and report back.

Yea, he's a newbie and should be cut some slack. Some of the more seasoned posters should know this.

I plan on checking it out with an open mind.

But when he acts like that, I struggle to get enthusiasm. Because of his attitude I was able to list 10 non bar-scene groups that I would check out before this. I'm not going to patronize him and say "oh isn't this great" when he caused me to think the opposite!

As a 30 odd year veteran of the scene I concur with everything Bellhoban said about it in his post.

This thread reminds me of the thread on goys a few years ago!

Just read this thread now. I've attended DIGS events off and on for the past year and I really enjoy them.

The opening poster really shouldn't be treating the rest of gay social life in Dublin with such distain. There are plenty of gay groups that try and foster proper and loyal friendships while also allowing people to meet potential partners.

It does the group a grave disservice.

I don't think anyone should take the OP as representative of that group. He didn't represent the group in any way just himself. BBJ pissed him off so he started angrily responding to BBJ.

He still said some untrue things about the gay social community in Dublin even if he was provoked.

He also clearly said he was not representative.

He was obviously very 'pissed off' before he even posted here.
His response to my joke about dropping flyers into pubs and clubs was an attack on the owners of those venues, not me.

Unfortunately, damage has been done. I know of someone who wouldn't consider going to an event because of the behaviour of the OP in this thread.

Maybe but I think most people will realise the OP was unrepresentative and will choose to judge for themselves. If you think this thread is that damaging then perhaps you should the time lapse of 18 months let the thread die.
