It's Thanksgiving - What Are You Thankful For?

# 1 : Thursday 25-11-2010 @ 09:05

In the midst of all the doom and gloom this week, the Americans and Canadians are celebrating thanksgiving. A time when they're thankful that their ancestors invaded someone else's country and killed most of the natives.

Not the happiest thought in the world. So what are you thankful for today?

A minor point of order, Mister Chairman: Canadian Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October.

What am I thankful for?

1. To be living in what is still a wealthy country and while we'll emerge from this poorer, we'll still be better off than the vast majority of the world's population.

2. To be living in a region of the world that is unusually peaceful in an era that is unusually peaceful.

3. To be living in a country that is pretty much free from natural disasters.

4. That I have my health and can get around unassisted, able to look after myself. I've worked in a nursing home and I've seen people who can do none of these things.

5. I'm free of debts. No-one out there has a claim on me.

I'm not thankful for that, we have a conference call with the most annoying Canadian every Thursday, and we thought he was off today. Dammit.
