I think that was in 2002. And he wasn't denying that he was gay. It was apparently a long interview with the Star regarding the leadership within Labour when he made an off the cuff statement that he wasn't gay. They decided to run with the silly photo of him with his pint and the paper. I don't think the people of Wexford are that homophoic that he would have to go out and deny it.
