Young Gay Men, Ignorance Is Aids?

The largest study ever into gay and bisexual health reports that nearly 1 in 5 of gay/bisexual men in the 21 cities in the US with the highest rates of hiv are infected. It shows that almost half are unaware of their status. This is disgusting and shocking.

It is yet another massaged statistic-it creates a headline that claims one in five of ALL gay men are HIV+.
This is what is disgusting.
Using that term to describe the fact that men have contracted HIV is inflammatory and judgemental.
One in five men in risk groups in Metropolitan areas in some cities are HIV+
In fairness though a new generation really need to understand that this has not gone away but that article is a total piece of dumbass hackwork and this topic needs careful intellegent debate and not exclamations of disgust.

Oh and on a semantic note EVERYONE is unaware of their status until they are tested.
Language is a powerful thing.

But if they unaware of their status how do they know that?

Hardly an unbiased study! It's like saying 100% of all murderers kill people!

No the fact that anyone suffers from HIV, an entirely preventable disease, is disgusting. The article I linked to clearly spells out the limits of the research. The point regarding the statement of their awareness was that almost 44% of the men involved believed they were HIV free only to discover they were infected.

MSNBC is a liberal left wing media source. The Kaiser institute is a respected organisation.

Then why release such a spurious statistic?

Its not the first time this type of statistic has been released. A google search will find plenty of similar results and research.

Honestly its probably better to face the facts as inflammatory as they are and use them to increase HIV awareness and safe sex campaigns.
