She's an icon and her music and style will influence a generation of modern soul. Hopefully they wont fall into the trap of living the lifestyle she did, but that aside shes a true legend

Just wondering to myself, does that type of expressive voice and heartfelt soul need that pain in their life to really express it.

I think this story was all over twitter and all the tv networks. In relation to fans setting up facebook pages that is bound to happen. That is the world of celebrity for you

Its familiarity, we know Amy because of the celebrity culture, we don't know the kids in Norway.

A loved one dies, that is devastating, a million die in a war, well that's just awful.

Ah yeah I can understand that, however I just see it being really sad that a celebrity has topped the headlines more than some many young innocent kids is all i'm saying.
But one death is one death too many in my book, and Amy's family have had her funeral planned years ago as they where fearful for her death such a shame.

That is the life that family members face of people with addictions. People do not realise how many people in ireland die from alcohol addiction. Alot of people think it is drug addiction that is the big killer. This could not be further from the truth.

Yeah you are right when you say that, there just isn't enough publicity about it as the government don't want to lose out on the revenue from drink sales and the pubs don't want to lose the customers either. I believe that there should be more money invested in both drug and alcohol addiction - I know it's too late for amy but maybe this might be one of these things that have happened for people to react to it.

That is such a myth! The story on Norway is the news Amy is a big story too but one look at the papers, television stations etc clearly shows that the majority of attention is directed, properly to the Norwegians. What people forget is that celebrities are more than the people themselves they are the embodiment of the sentiment people place in them and a prism of society in general. When a celebrity dies we mourn not simply for the individual but also for what they symbolize and reflect in our wider world. In Amy's case the tragedy of destroyed youth, drug addictions crippling and cruel nature and wasted talent. She is the magnifying class through which we express our sorrow.

Amy Winehouse, 2011: Died age 27
Kurt Cobain, 1994: Died age 27
Jim Morisson, 1971: Died age 27
Jimmy Hendrix, 1970: Died age 27
Janis Joplin, 1970: Died age 27

Whos next? Justin Bieber?!

Do you think people will learn now about addictions? Especially if people haven't learned from the past?

In fairness the previous governments have passed a number of laws to prohibit happy hours etc. Also the smoking ban had a huge impact on the license business.

i think they should do something about the supermarkets selling products under cost and encouraging binge drinking.

I think the drinking laws here are droconian. They are a huge part of the problem. They should extend the drinking hours to disencourage panic buying at closing time in the pubs and nightclubs.

There are a selct few commenting on this thread who are clearly mentally retarded !!!

It dosnt matter which story made more media coverage since the weekend. That type of argument is getting fucking old !!! None of those poor victims in Norway should have died at the weekend, and neither should Amy Winehouse. All needless deaths. Simple as!
