Amy Winehouse Dead

# 76 : Sunday 24-7-2011 @ 13:01

Well it seems that there are people on every forum who just post comments to provoke a reaction. Its quite a silly thing to do really.

Call Amy Winehouse a junkie all you want, but at the end of the day, she was a human being, a talented musican, who met her death at a very young age.

I rather think you should be ashamed Blah, your comments are there to provoke rather than add anything to what is essentially an obituary thread.

I don't see it as that. We already have the Dead Thread for that. I see this thread as a discussion of the Life and Times of Amy Winehouse: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Eulogy originally means "true words".
It has been devoided to mean "good words", where every death washes all sins.
I don't believe in sins.

Her talent was overrated: the gossip from her self-subtance-abuse was the main reason she attracted headlines after her first spell at "fame".

I take most issue with this, its not her fault the press and the public were only interested in her addiction, she didn't start using so she would get headlines. In fact there are dozens more artists out there with similar addictions that you never hear about because of a huge PR machine behind them, Amy Winehouse just didn't go in for that kind of representation. Which is a real pity.

She was more talented than the media coverage gave credit for during her lifetime; at her best she was an electric singer as well as a terrific songwriter in the classic mould.

So she was under-rated, not over-rated as a talent.

Did I blame here for it?
I specifically said the gossip, the media, and the morbid attention from the "fans" was unhealthy and unbecoming.

But also, as illustrated by JK's video, she did not grab headlines recently for her talent. And she kept performing when she was not fit to do so: she was not forced onto that stage.

I do not say she "got what she deserved", because no one deserves that life of addiction and that kind of death.

I also said that her friends and family should be allowed to grieve privately, away from the media and groupies, who collectively participated (along with herself) in her downfall.

Amy Winehouse has topped iTunes charts across the world following her death.

The singer was found dead at her North London home yesterday at the age of 27 after a long battle with substance abuse.

Winehouse's iconic Back to Black record currently sits at number one on both the UK and US iTunes charts. It is also the top album in Italy, Canada and France, among others.

A package of her second album alongside her debut Frank has reached number six on the UK chart, immediately followed by the deluxe edition of Back to Black. Her single 'Back to Black' is currently at number 16

In the US, Frank has reached number four, while her track 'Rehab' is currently at number 17 on the singles chart.

Meanwhile, in Australia, Back to Black is at number two, with the package of both her albums following at three.

The online music store has since created a special 'Remembering Amy Winehouse' area containing all her material.

Seems she was on a bender for the last week, but the likely cause was dodgy ecstacy pills.

Her version of Valerie with Mark Ronson was terrific. A great example of the cover beating the original.

It really was. I dismissed it for a long time but now I really love it.
