(edited title as i dont think good or bad wer the right phrases for what i wanted to find out from the thread - too simplistic and needs very little thought - hope this is ok ???)

as Mary McAleese sets about packing her bags and leaving aras an uachtarain for greener pastures (if thats possible ) - what are your reflections on her 14 in office. She presided over this country in the peak years of the celtic tiger and the bleak years of our present recession.
while many think that its an office that should be removed - do you think that she did use the office to promote Ireland in a positive light abroad?

were there are aspects of her presidency that you did not agree with ?

Mary McAleese was a very good president. Mary Robinson was a hard act to follow but McAleese did so and played the role of President well.

She was good, but just boring! I hope Norris wins and opens a Sauna in the house with loads of Parties and start his plan to take over the world? That would be interesting!

More good than bad.
Not as obviously intelligent as Robinson.
I felt she was embarrassingly cringeworthy in terms of seemingly fake over-sentimentality on some occasions.
I can't remember the specific occasions. And it was probably more my projections of awkwardness than anything she did.
Anyway, it would have been worse if she was the other way.
When I found out what she had done for gay rights prior to her presidency in the 1970s, I warmed more towards her and respected her more.

She didn't do anything spectacular but she did keep it together taking over from Mary Robinson.

As others have said, a tad boring!

Can't believe it's 14 years! I remember when she was elected!

She has been good alright I must say but do we have to pay that much money to have a president? They should be on a little more than the normal Industrial wage and not these massive pay packets IMO.
