Quitting Your Job...

# 31 : Tuesday 18-10-2011 @ 01:20

I'll never forget the day I quit Supermacs in 1995. Just woke up and said, what the fuck am I doing this for?

And I got on the bus and rolled out of town ...

... and came back to town the next day because that's where I lived. But still, it felt good!

That was the day they had to drop 'tasty' from their advertisments.
From then on it was just 'Tempting food at.......Supermacs'

A quick scan of the search function lead me to this thread;

So interviewed for a new / better job yesterday on my day off and got the call this morning to say I had got it. I start on May 11th subject to background checks. I am only in my current role 2 months, so a weeks notice is all I imagine I have to give.

When is the best time to give the notice do you think? Obviously I won't do anything until after the background checks for the new role have been completed. I'm leaving the current role as the hours are really unsuitable and unsociable.

I'm self-employed and this week I walked out on my biggest client, who is responsible for 60% of my income. Some sensitive information was released which only he, another lawyer and I were party too. I denied responsibility, but off the record he told me that he was having an affair with the female lawyer and that she was responsible for the leak. But, she had threatened to expose the affair if he blamed her. So I was the fall-guy. I said nothing, went to my office, wrote a polite resignation letter and walked.
Sometimes life just isn't fair.

Why didn't you expose the affair?

As soon as you get the all clear, just go and speak to your manager

Maybe because that would be unethical, wouldn't he be breaking client/attorney privilege?

It would have destroyed two marriages and two very nice decent families.

There's that element as well, he more or less threatened to sue me on that basis if I did expose it. On a personal level it would have destroyed so many lives.
