Amongst the media focus on the Presidential election and the Referenda being held next week there has been little mention here on Gaire on the upcoming bye-election in Dublin West to fill the seat of the deceased Brian Lenihan.

So which of the candidates are likely to get elected? And to those Gaireans living in this constituency - who are you likely to vote for?

Here's what the ballot for Dublin West will look like...a lot of candidates looking to take just one seat.

The JFK stands for John Frank Kidd - and sorry to burst your bubble Gorgonzola - but he's a retired fire officer. Not the resurrection of the JFK.

I went to primary school with one of Eithne Loftus's sons. She must be getting on a bit now.

Did anyone hear the candidates for the Dublic West bye-election on Newstalk yesterday evening?

It was the stuff of soap opeas. Ruth Coppinger of the "Socialist" Party angrily denied David McGuinness's jibe that she campaigned for the corporation tax rate to be raised to 24%. After the break the host dug up Ruth's 2011 election manifesto and yes, she did propose a corporation tax rate of 24%. The subsequent silence from Ms Coppinger was deafening.

I didn't hear it but believe it was on Q102 and not Newstalk. Which manifesto literature was that? I have her current one and it doesn't mention anything about a 24% corporation rate. Do you mean something from the general election last spring?

Sorry - I meant Q102. I usually listen to Newstalk in the car but was changing stations when I heard this on the radio.

I'm pretty sure that this came from the 2011 general election manifesto.

Barry Cunt? Niiiice.

Seriously though, I thought after the Donegal fiasco that By elections had to be held within a reasonable timeframe?
