WHALE BONDAGE...DONT FREE WILLY!!!

I love animals. Not because they are cute, and sometimes edible, but because I believe that all creatures capable of suffering deserve compassion and respect. How we treat them is indivisibly linked to how we treat each other.

That said,i was infuriated when i heard that PETA were suing Seaworld in the US on behalf of some whales, citing the 13th Amendment, which is based on Anti Slavery

Human dignity is at stake here, and its seems to me folks that ill informed highly hypocritical pseudo-liberals are denigrating HUMAN rights and values, cheaping the sickening reality of human slavery, servitute and exploitation by lowering it to the level of this circus .how dare they!

youve inspired me to update the title of this thread

seriously though,it fucking kills me to see these idiots cheapen
there are very few things sacred in this world and the sanctity of human life is one of them.the human body and mind is the highest form of creation,we are animals yes,but without a respect and even worship for human dignity nothing else is possible

we shouldnt abuse animals,we shouldnt torture maime or mistreat.but for f*ck sake lets not pollute human decency by comparing non sentient protein to even the lowliest of humanity

The whales are in more danger if they are let back into the oceans.

If they win this, then what's next, getting rid of dogs as pets?

As long as there is no indication that the animals are mistreated, then I believe they should be allowed to continue.

I think I agree that keeping whales like this isn't really cool anymore. Whale and Dolphin along with sharkfins are the only things I've been offered to eat but have declined because I'm uncomfortable with it.

Not too sure about the American justice system, but in ours you need to be a person to bring a case and that would be the end of this legal episode.

PETA are a pain in the ass.
Yes, they did/do some good.
However certain things change because of them that piss me off.
As of January 1st Foie Gras can no longer be bought, sold or served in restaurants in California. Madness!
Yes the farmers force feed the geese/ducks, but have you ever had foie gras? It's better than sex. I don't know what I'll do come January.
I can only hope California does like Illinois did. They too passed a no foie gras law. After one year, they repealed it.

So they can't sell Foie Gras, but every other form of pate is fine?

i completely agree with you, i think the balance between animal welfare and
conservation versus entertainment is strongly skewed towards making money
i think any of the higher mammals like whales, dolphins and great apes should be provided with stimulating santuaries rather than preforming parlour tricks

however undoubtedly,we accomplish little for animal welfare if we cheapen human dignity by comparing the ongoing struggle to liberate humans from slavery and suffering with whales.its just plain wrong.im bleedin sick of listening to people anthropomorphising animal rights

bleedin adverts asking for you to donate to talking dogs and cats frequently in the same time slot as ones for famine in africa.it seems PETA fanatics should start being more Human and less Humane

Yeah.
Regular pate is like a Morris Minor compared to the Rolls Royce which is foie gras.

but there is the dichotomy between having a more "natural" environment, vulnerable to the perils of predators, disease etc and having a life of total ease and safety in captive breeding or a sanctuary of some kind
totally agree though that keeping such huge and intelligent animals in tanks is wrong but there must be a compromise

it just disgust me that these assholes have the nerve to compare animals in captivity to human slaves.these idiots would love to open te cages/tanks/kennels of the world and let these animals free without any comprehsion of the actual welfare of them and their chances of survival.its Sentiment over Reason, the oldest form of evil

Keeping Orcas in captivity ain't too healthy for humans either.

"Killer whales (or orcas) are powerful predators capable of dispatching prey much larger than humans, such as leopard seals and great white sharks. They have also been recorded preying on usually terrestrial species such as moose swimming between islands.[1] However, wild orcas are not considered a real threat to humans, as there are few documented cases of wild orcas attacking people, and none of the recorded attacks have been fatal. There have been about two dozen cases of orcas attacking humans since the 1970s,[2] almost exclusively perpetrated by captive animals. Experts are divided as to whether the injuries and deaths caused by captive killer whales have been accidents or deliberate attempts to cause harm.[3]"

Jesus theres some headcount there! I suppose theyre called Killer Whales for a reason
These are dangerous predators, which are inteligent and more than capable of killing other animals and each other in the wild.

I think sentimentalising them because they are iconic is flawed logic.Certainly protect them all you want, but dont be under any illusions that keeping them in captivity in the right conditions violates and existentialist right that they have

I see where you're coming from, but they have to 'sing for their supper' don't they, after being taken from their home and sold to the highest bidder...
There are paralells to slavery in that some people just think it's they're right to do whatever they want to animals and people 'lower than themselves'.
