Phrases That Make No Sense

Flame on mentioned this one in another thread

Give anyone enough rope and eventually they will hang themselves

I never understood that phrase, why would having a lot of rope compel someone to kill themselves?

What other common phrases do you not understand?

Another one that I don't get is when people say "it's a soft day?" WTF?

If someone is messing you about and you are not 100% about confronting them - let them carry on till you are sure and then pull the rug out from under them

Soft day is nice weather.. as in gentle/pleasant, not hard. So a bit of light rain if its mild or a gentle breeze is grand sure, nothing extreme thank god!

LOL, that actually wasn't intentional, there are so many we're not even conscious of when we use them sometimes!
