He's probably right, the relief you might feel when you when you speak to someone who is an expert in the field may be enough to feel a bit better. I think going to hospital should be the last option for you. I mean what else have you tried?

My depression involves obsessive mirror checking and taking photos of myself with the digital camera in different lighting situations. Does anyone else go through this? I have sometimes wondered if I have BDD but on balance I doubt it. My former close friend texted to me last year that I had dysmorphophobia. I know what I'm seeing but....it keeps changing each time I look in the mirror and different lighting....it's bizarre...it's driving me crazy.

I am on strong medication, awaiting counselling and I didn't expect to be advised. That I should go in on my first ever appointment with a consultant, I didnt know I was that low? But she gave me two weeks to think and prepare, she insisted I should and need to go in?

Have you got OCD, have you made an appointment to see a consultant?

I don't know whether I have OCD but I think I've had it since my late teenage years. I have been refused an appointment for a healthboard counsellor some time ago I will have another try. I've been depressed for 20 yrs.

I have been thinking of going for CBT. I know there are things that i need to deal with now, things that are getting a little out of hand. Has anyone been through CBT before?

I'm doing CBT now...I'm lucky I don't have to pay as I have a medical card and there is a counselling psychologist in my gps surgery.
It's early days yet and I find it a bit tough and draining though I know it will help long term.
I think it is a better step than just taking meds, but thats not the case for everyone of course.

Ah that's great, I wouldn't qualify for the medical card unfortunately. Apparently im loaded

Yeah I would rather not take meds either, as i don't think it would help me. Thanks for the feedback. Think Ill start the ball rolling tomorrow

Yes, you should definitely go. I had one free session with a psychologist in Trinity College and plan to do some more. The things that come out of you when you don't know a person and inhibitions are left at the door. It really is fascinating!

Sighs. So little support in this country, we have been criticised ty Amnesty International over it!.
I have been struggling most of my life with low self esteem, low energy, and on the edge of suicide several times. A failed marriage, 6 times made redundant from professional positions, and that job market all but dried up through "restructuring".
I am slowly coming to terms with things while waiting for a therapist due to relocation.
An impending court battle which I do expect to win, will make a big difference. I do now believe in myself ... most of the time. ... this started when I was a kid ... I am now 53.
