Are you fixated on nostalgia,a constant reference to the past,in music and films in particular,i'm really shocked at some friends, both single and married, who embrace the past with a passion to the detriment of all things new,to me,a born again new bloke, that is like living in a tomb with no view. Most days I discover something new,and find i'm always nostalgic for the future, how about you,are you at present tense or embracing Tomorrow,or living the past with deep deep sorrow?

Oh, I'm stuck in the 90s when it comes to music but I try to keep current. Most people have nostalgia to one degree or another for the time when they were young adults.

Nostalgia's not what it used to be.

I have one friend who is stuck in the 1980's.
At times you'd want to slap him, scream at him, carpe diem !

There is so much good music in the past, that never diminishes, but there is so much more so now with greater access via the interweb, personally,my excitement and wonder at new musical discoveries is at an all time high right now, why, there is even a new electronic musical revolution happening in Limerick at present. Viva la Revolution.

This thread was written for you jk. I think it's great that when someone talks about a movie released from the early 80's onwards you van tell us what year it was released, what you were doing at the time and why you remember.

It's like an episode of reeling in the years.

From my own point of view, I love a bit of nostalgia,.particularly when my dad's family.are talking about when they were growing up.

Quote from the Wikipedia entry on Nostalgia:

"A 17th Century medical student coined the term "nostalgia" for anxieties displayed by Swiss mercenaries fighting away from home, although some military doctors believed their problems were specific to the Swiss and caused by the Alpine racket of cowbells[citation needed]."

I used to love all those I love the 70s weekends BBC2 used to air even though I wasn't born until 1982 and I don't remember that much of the 80s.

I like a bit of nostalgia. I find shows like reeling in the years very entertaining.
Most new music is shite these days, with a few exceptions. So I prefer to throw on some Peter Gabriel or Rolling stones rather than tinchy bleedin strider or one direction

I love 70s music - disco, reggae, funk, punk, glam and lashings of good hard rock. Sometimes I feel like I should have been born about 20 years earlier (but not in Ireland, nosiree...) to have experienced the 70s intead of being born halfway through the decade.

and on that note...

I have been indulging in a bit of nostalgia lately, mostly buy buying old stuff on eBay.

Just bought Iron Maiden's Somewhere in Time on vinyl (Portuguese edition), a Star Wars action figure from 1986 and bidding on a space Lego set and an issue of Spiderman, which for some reason has become incredibly expensive.

That last one I'm buying more as an investment as I expect it to go up in value.
