Do you agree, we should be all automatic organ donors from birth and if we wish not to? Then we should register to opt out and not in, as it is now! Whats your thoughts?

I think the opt out option is the best, I for one have no problem donating anything that may help others.

No, the opt ourmt system is actually unworkable. The IKA are firmly against this.

Some people seem to think they own their own bodies even after their body dies.

Who becomes the owner, when you have passed?

The planet.
The universe.
So perhaps the rest of humanity should have the right to take any body parts and organs.
So perhaps I agree - we should be all automatic organ donors from birth.

There's loads of articles about it, not really in the mood to explain the ins and outs for obvious reasons.

I wrote a blog on it here.

Most people are quite happy to donate their organs, the biggest problem in this country is lack of transplant coordinators who work with the families of the bereaved. For instance Beaumount have four but St Vincents has none and regardless of whether you have an opt out system or not you still need someone to work with the families.

And there is no way even if someone chose to be a donor from stopping a family reversing that decision of that's how they feel. Most don't and in fact I have heard of families that were never approached about organ donation even though the organs were viable. Which goes back to the transplant coordinators shortage.

In my opinion, once a body dies, it belongs to the planet (unless stated in someone's will or in a Non-Organ-Donor card) so I'm ok with parts of that body being used to prolong someone else's life who wants to stay alive.

I am a registered organ donor in ireland and the uk. I would be delighted if I could help someone else live after I've gone.
