To Block Or Not To Block

A few minutes ago I was just blocked on facebook, it has happened quite a few times and I have a few people on my own blocked list.

Do you have a block list and why are the people who are there there?

If we had a block list on Gaire would you use it?

I have blocked a few ex-boyfriends and I did have to block something as they were posting really foul stuff on my wall and didn't stop even though I politely asked them to stop. It was quite embarrassing.

Now there are a few people that I am friends with who I wouldn't delete but whose updates I hide because they are so annoying.

I have two people blocked on my Facebook. One is an ex friend who I fell out with 4 years ago and I never want to see or hear from him again. Blocked the second person only last week. He was a friend of a friend and he added me after I was introduced to him in a pub one evening when I was having drinks with friends. Straight and married, but he would leave some offensive gay jokes on some status’ I would put up. It could be about anything but he would take the piss out of me for being gay. One of his comments took the biscuit last week and I blocked him.

I don't have any ex's blocked, but do have 10 others who are "creepy" blocked. I have all apps blocked as well as a few people's updates as they are boring but family.

I know I've been blocked at least 10 times but probably more as I can be quite obnoxious.

I tend to the hide the updates of people who status updates are a diary of their drinking habits.

"of out with de gurls for a few shandies, yiz better watch out fellas..lol"

"oh my jaysus, i dink I may actually be dieing of a hangover..never drinking again"

That evening...

"having some wine with me best buds..lols"

I have blocked one person on facebook a right creeper. I don't think anyone has blocked me. How do you know if they have?

More importantly are you proud of your blocking achievement? lol

That's what I was wondering, how do you find out? Facebook gives you the option to block without having contact with someone so I imagine I could be blocked by lots of different people!

I haven't blocked anyone on facebook. If I don't like them I'd just unfriend them. They prob wouldn't even notice that I've unfriended them and if they do notice then they wouldn't be long figuring out why I did it.

If there was a block function on gaire, yes I would use it.

A cousin of mine freaks out when someone defriends him, he even texts his Mam when it happens. (He's 30!)

My cousin in America did that when i defriended them, its bizarre.
If someone does not make any effort to get in touch with me then i just get rid of them after a while, whats the point.

That's what I say to him, in some cases people had probably just closed their account down but he still takes it as a personal attack.

A friend of mine has done that.

He lives in the UK and he deactivated his Facebook. I think there is a function on it where you can have your page inactive without deleting it completely. Anyway I had friends of his messaging me online asking after him. What is he up to etc ? I think he was having some sort of breakdown and shut everyone out. I haven’t heard from him since last Xmas, but have texted him to let him know that I am there for him if needed.

People on average have between 300-500 “friends” on Facebook. I doubt they know each and every one of them personally.
