Do you think Wine, would make better anti-freeze?

No,but i'm sure there are many winos who wouldn't say no to a nice glass of heart warming anti-freeze.

I think the referenmce to Black Tower and Blue Nun may have ben tongue in cheek. Those wines were very popular in the 70s when we were just getting used to wine and people went for sweet wines. Unless you really like sweet wines avoid them. Superquinn has some really good wines at very reasonable prices. One I find consistently good is Rivero and it can be a little as €7 on special offer or about €12 otherwise. Last weekend the bf and me had a Finca Los Altos that only cost €6 and was very good. It's a red. Rivero does both red and white.

If you are looking for a red Supavalu had a Rioja Faustino VII for €9 last weekend, very nice. Any of the Riojas are good but Faustino are the best, they go from VII (7) down to a I (1) but that's very hard to come by (and afford !) Other good reds are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz or Corbières.

Go for French or Spanish reds, German or Italian whites. The same grape grown in another country is not always the same taste. But as has been said Prosecco is good for this time of year. It is sparkling but a dry white, where as the other suggestions are sweeter.

True, they were the old equivalents of today's ubiquitous plonk, J P Chenet. Or Blossom Hill.

Mcguigan,yellow tail, hardys,
I'd say all under a tenner

The Yellow Tail Shiraz is not a bad drop of wine at all. I'm drinking a glass right now *hic*. A good mid-week or bargain wine. Not one to give as a gift, though.

I was in a wine shop but I didn't have my list or phone with me.
I've compiled my list now and it's distilled down to a short list of 14 choices. So I can go shopping with confidence.

I've got 3 bottles of stuff in Aldi so far. Non of which were on the list.
I'm going back to the wine shop now probably for the Prosecco.
