Dog Walkers And Not Picking Up Their Dog Droppings

# 1 : Friday 4-1-2013 @ 20:33

Have been out and about over the christmas festive period and noticed a lot of people out with their dogs walking them, nothing wrong with that however the problem was I seen a person with a dog whom didnt pick up afetr their dog fouling.
Then a while after I managed to walk into dog poo and noticed on my travels after that, that there was a lot of dog poo on the streets and public walkways.
I know a few dog owners who do pick up after their dog, however by the sights I came across the past week or so there seems to be quite a lot that dont.
So my question to all dog owners is do you pick up after your dog or do you leave it there?

I pick it up all the time, have doggie bags in every coat and I absolutley detest it when other dog owners leave their dogs doings behind. It costs 2Euro for 50 bags in our local discount store and the local town council give out free bags to those who want. It is a pet peeve of mine.

I know the local litter warden and he told me what he has to go through to get a prosecution, it would be easier to get the government to give us all back the taxes we've paid for the last 10 years.
They need photographic evidence of the dog pooing, the owner not picking it up, the full name and address of said owner, then must contact Gardai to issue ticket/charge/summons.

Dog sh*t is a health hazard, especially to young children. People who don't bother to pick up after their dogs are lazy, selfish scummers.

It can cause blindness according to the posters at bus stops recently, I actually get that shudder you know like someone walking over my grave lol when I see dog poo, I absolutely detest the smell and sight of it. They should use cctv to try curtail it, I know that would only work in built up areas, but with the amount of money this governemt wastes it should be able to put more dog owners under survelience.

Toxoplasmosis is caused by the roundworm parasite that can be carried by cats and dogs and foxes. The risk of blindness from this infection is very small. Generally toxoplama produces only a mild self limiting illness. The main concern is that again extremely rarely, pregnant mothers may pass toxoplasma on to the foetus and this can cause blindness.

The parasite is far more likely to be contracted from dirty soil where a cat or fox has littered in the garden than it is from dog poo on the street. After all we donot regularly have our hands on the street surface. I would suggest a total ban on cats and to shoot all foxes on sight. Oh and while we are at it why not exterminate all rats in the country (as they are attempting to do in the Falklands/Malvinas) for fear of them spreading Weils disease. (joking by the way, unless I get hauled over the coals again over something I said !)

Having said that, owners should not allow their dogs to soil the streets and the legislation should be changed to make prosecution easier because it is the only way you will alter some owner's attitudes.

I would actually volunteer to be a dog poo warden, I could have a little hat and clipboard. If I catch anyone do this I will then follow them home and burn down their house.

But in all seriousness, people should take proper care and clean up after their dogs. I live in Stoneybatter/ Smithfield and with some dogs seem to be a sort of status symbol so there's literally heaps of dog shit everywhere. It drives me nuts.

Plus 1
I think a lot more needs to be done with dog owners who dont pick up after their dog, it is lazy on the owners side, if they own a dog they should take full responsibility for it.

Some people are they ignorant and lazy.A couple of years ago on the mother's street there was excrement stuck to newspaper. There would be lots of this on certain sections of the street.(The street is very long). The paper would either be loose or slightly stuck to the ground.Disgusting it is though you'd wonder how that was.You have to see it occurring.

This is it....la fella walking his greyhound was the culprit. The dog would do it's business and then owner would unfurl newspaper from his person, throw it upon the excrement and proceed to literally stamp on the paper and leave it on the ground.
