An add for this suspiciously sounding "Jamaican Stone" popped up on my Facebook:

Is that what I think it is?

Why do Italians in Ireland own chippers instead of pizzerias?

It's just that for an Italian to abandon their food and go for deep fried beige foods is as unnatural as a frenchman having a coke rather than wine with his dinner.

There are a few Italian restaurants scattered about but I guess for a local takeaway its quicker to wait for chips than a pizza.

I reckon the real reason is that when they moved to Ireland pizza was as exotic to the Irish as eating insects

What ingredients were readily available when they came here, I suppose.

(Don't forget that for decades in Ireland, the only place you could get olive oil was the pharmacy, & in tiny and expensive bottles because it was sold as a softener for built up ear wax. Given that product placement, we were hardly likely to have bell peppers, pepporini, or the right kind of flour for weird and exotic things like pizzas.)

Poor Guido! Imagine what they suffered having no Italian food or vino!

The first Italian chipper in Dublin was in the 1880s. By 1910, there were 20 Italian chippers in Dublin. I'd never have guessed that!

An art question. Bathrooms and kitchens can be steamy rooms (and greasy in the case of kitchens). Can any Gaireans give advice on how to frame or choose pictures for putting on the wall in a bathroom or kitchen?
