As in torturing one person to save thousands of lives?
No, not quite as dramatic as that. I mean in situations that might actually arise, for instance. Though my vision of might actually is pretty liberal.
Imagine something that killed hundreds of thousands of people, but could not be said to be evil, perhaps it was a living relatively intelligent being that simply didn't realise we were intelligent. After countess attacks we learn to communicate. I personally think for our non violent, peaceful, reasonable society to survive someone would have to act outside the law, without the sanction of the many, and kill that entity. Even though it is immoral. If it is not killed the moral order established would collapse.
Possibly. I am just playing philosophical chess in my head.
