No, he made the mistake of arrogance and being blindsighted by greed which in my book are forgivable human mistakes. What do you think 15 years is going to teach him or anyone else for that matter? It wont teach him to reform himself anyway. And good character is taken into account all the time in court whether you think it should be or not.

Arrogance is not something that goes away by escaping a sentence or being let go with a slap on the wrist. I should know...
Greed and arrogance lead to feeling entitled to break the laws that are made for those fool enough to observe them. Get away with the crime lightly and it justifies both your greed and arrogance. Add intelligence and education and you have learned how to get away with it next time.
And greed and arrogance are not a mark of good character in my book. I should know...

Why do people have this thing about privileged people......that they can do no wrong? That they should be treated differently?

This was calculated. It was advanced and highly planned. It is illegal even the slowest person would know this is illegal. He made his bed and got caught he has to lie in it now. What all his education and his ""good character"" he should no better. He was arrogant because because of whom is was he could do this without reproach.

Leaving the sentence aside from other crimes because that really is a separate issue.Drugs is a serious offence and 15 years for drugs is probably bordering on the lenient side.

I'm not talking about a light sentence, just one that doesn't ruin lives. Any of us could be accused of being arrogant or greedy at one stage or another but we're given the chance to change. if you were to see this guy in 15 years and see a completely damaged man would you think to yourself "job well done"? do you think being vengeful but within the law makes you a better person.

I don't think the sentence is unfair because he was privileged as you put it but I think this sentence does nothing but ruin a young life. As I said to blah h, if you take a man who has been a functioning member of society and after 15 years all you see is an unrecognisable version of him then what have you achieved? Would you think that was a positive outcome?

HE ruined his life! HE'S put his kid without a father. HE made the calculated decision to become a major drug importer. You say we can all be arrogant and greedy but we don't all do this. He knew the risks, he got caught. So now he's paying the price. Don't forget that him and people like him help fuck up plenty of lives themselves.
