Health Insurance

Hi all,

Was wondering if people have health insurance, and if so, what is the best policy to go with.

I haven't had up until now but as I am shoving on, it might be time. Apart from being confused by the myriad of options, I am not really sure you see any benefit of it (apart from perhaps a semi-private room if giving birth or something).

Would appreciate any advice.

I'm on One Plan Starter with VHI. I was with One Plan before that and Plan A before that. I've had to progressively reduce my cover in the face of perpetual premium increases. I now pay €44 a month on One Plan Starter compared to €75 on One Plan before.

My understanding is that you have to have insurance or you will wait longer. Hospitals want the payments from the insurance companies.

Have you tried ringing a broker? VHI do seem to be the most expensive of the lot though.

There is little to choose between them pricewise. The govt's health levy makes effective price competition impossible.

I don't have health insurance even though im a manager in a feckin insurance company...

I regret not getting health insurance for my mother years ago,but to be honest I think the cost of it is crippling and would like as likely to make me sick from stress as it would to benefit my health!

the only reason i have is that i work for a company who pay most of the premium for me - otherwise i wouldn't have it. the only benefit i got last year was for four visits to my GP, i got 25 euro back per visit (which cost 50) - half the cost of the visit. i think the limit on this though is 6 visits per year.

Its one thing I haven't given much thought to,health insurance. I think its because I very rarely get sick,It's been well over 20 years since I was even at a GP,I keep telling myself I'll wait until the aches and pains of old age set in to start worrying about insurance, but by that time I'll probably be too old to be insured. Maybe I'll get that one they advertise on the tv to cover your funeral expenses.

I pay 65 a month with VHI, it's well worth it as if you get sick you don't have to wait

If you have it, treatment is suddenly possible. Else, you are condemned to a long wait.

Yeah...I think it's standard in pharmaceutical industry as I work with chemicals etc which are potentially dangerous to my health
