Let's see how good Gaireans are at maths by doing these 7 GSCE (the UK exam students sit at age 15/16, roughly comparable with the Junior Cert) maths examination questions.

I got 4/7 myself... Maths was my second worst subject (worst was irish) in school.

7/7 These are ridiculously easy, after however many years of secondary education these students have availed of, I would have thought the standard should be much higher. At the risk of having to duck brickbats from maths teachers is it the way it is taught? I would have thought these were 11+ level questions.

I am embarrassingly poor at maths, even basic addition and subtraction
I would imagine im classes as innumerate or number dyslexic or something
but to be honest even though my job involves using statistics etc
its never really hindered me as I use calculators and spread sheets

Im more hindered trying to calculate a round in the pub

Horrible and a factor in my appalling failure at Technical Graphics in secondary school.

I'm just delighted that I made 4/7. I'm pretty hopeless at maths.

I hadn't a clue about the fraction type question or the one with the a=b+c format.
I've never had the foggiest about equations. When I see equations I get a tad depressed...

I have a form of numerical dyslexia, numbers and basic arithmetic in my head just totally jumble up and I start to panic when I have to do basic maths. I've always been terrible at it, numbers really freak me out.
