I work in Wicklow's Historic Gaol and today while doing a tour I saw a woman wearing a full lenght cloak complete with hood walk in front of another staff member. I told my colleague about this and she said she had felt a breeze when she got to where she was going.

That's freaky ! Ive heard loads about that Gaol, must visit it soon and I expect a Gaire members discount and an intro to some ghosts!
Would you often see apparitions like that actingman? Like ive heard of people
who literally see things on a weekly basis,I think its fascinating.
Id love it(I think)

Years ago when I lived in the folks' house I used to hear footsteps late at night, like the sound of ladies heels on a wooden floor in the distance but the sound used to come from a particular corner of the room. Also used to hear it from the downstairs wc. This happened regularly for a long period.
Also the volume on the stereo in my bedroom used to turn itself up full blast (100w), and give me an absolute heart attack, happened lots of times. I have the same stereo in my apartment now and it never happened here.
Also I saw the door handle of the utility room move up and down one night, we had family there and some small nieces & nephews so I just presumed one of them had gone in and shut the door behind them and maybe couldnt open it, so I went over and opened the door but no-one inside.
So some strange occurances thinking about it now but nothing that ever worried me in the slightest at the time. If it was a ghost I'm guessing it was a friendly one!
The house is only 10 years old now but we dont know what was on the site originally (it was a field but dont know before that). But it is an historical part of the country, there are lots of historical sites within 5-10 miles so you never know what was there centuries ago.

Ive heard a lot about hauntings like that, with the footsteps etc,I think they say its a Residual haunting, like a tape of an event or a commonly walked path that the apparition used to take in life

You said there was other freaky stuff at the site of the gaff too??

This weird criss-cross shadow pattern appears every night on my bedroom ceiling.

There's a house not far from where I grew up and live that's supposed to be haunted. It's in Blanchardstown in fact.

My Dad had an apartment in Belfast in the 90s that my sisters and cousin swore was haunted - apparently by a male presence that descended and preyed on sleeping women.

Never felt any presence there myself but they were certain it was haunted.

I myself was in a castle just outside Tullamore that I felt a malevolent presence was lurking in - found out afterwards that it was supposed to be haunted.

My father told me when I was 5 that I was the child of a poltergeist, does that count?

I think one of the cows i'm milking at the moment saw a goast or leprecuahan earlier.
At the centre of a damaged fairy fort.
She started growling at something in the centre of the fort that i couldn't see.

Chance would be a fine thing. I would love to see a ghost but it's all utter bollocks. Wake me up then there's a sighting of a ghost in a brightly lit shopping centre and I'll be first in line.

Yes BB i'll organise a discount for you, might even give you a private tour of the dungeons lol. I wont say that I see things on a daily basis but I do sonce things quite often. I remember doing the Dublin Bus Ghost tour and pointing out areas to an American lady to take photos of and when she did she captured shadows or mists in the photos.

I know some people on here my consider it as hocus pocus or not real but for me its real.

I now completely don't believe in Ghosts.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those arseholes that gets killed first in the horror film, I am willing to change my stance based on experience.
Just in my experience thus far I've never witnesses anything I cannot explain, and added to that, I have witnessed the power of waking dreams and how real they are.
Thus my one stipulation in experiencing anything supernatural is I outright deny all experiences people recount from their beds, or while drunk/high/on meds.
Waking dreams are hyper real because they're short circuit the pathway between your scenes and your mind's perception of your senses, i.e., they're creating the phenomenon you're witnessing right at the source of cognition.

Some verifiable evidence and ill believe, until then ill remain a skeptic.
I still get freeked out when im home alone watching ghost movies, but i just dont see any reason to believe in their existence.

I don't believe in ghosts or spirits, but I do believe that we leave our mark behind.

Even though I don't believe in ghosts, I did have a very weird experience that I cannot explain. While in Oporto, myself and an ex had just gone to bed in a very old hotel after a walk around the city when I saw a young woman at the end of my bed very clearly. He couldn't see her at all but she just stood there smiling as I freaked out a bit. After about a minute (yes a minute) she walked up to the side of my bed and touched my head then disappeared all the time smiling. We weren't drinking as we had arrived late on a Monday in January so everything was closed.

Very strange experience and goes against everything I believe.

I'd love to believe but I just don't. Anything that people claim is a ghost is always easily explained away.

There was a great Daphne de Maurnier short story I read a few years ago with this theory. It is the most likely explanation for the 'feelings' that people get in places.

Seen what I thought was a ghost as a child, nothing until 1978 in Castlebar when I was off the booze for 2 nights on the trot and woke to find two people hurrying through my room and straight through a 3 foot thick wall, needless to say I was back on the booze the next day as I needed the sleep
