An interesting study in Princeton has shown what we probably all already know but are embarrassed to admit. That Schadenfreude,occasionally taking pleasure or comfort in the misfortune of others, is normal

I will admit its something I have experienced, though I am far from proud of it.
I hate hubris,so when someone boastful or overly proud takes a knock it

The idea that its normal will only encourage it as people won't feel guilty for doing it.

Admit to feeling smug at others misfortune at times but shocked at the idea that some would go so far as, to use an electric shock....

I HATE that RTE News clip. I can't stand to watch it. I'm not saying I don't get Schadenfreude. It's just that I always put myself in that guy's shoes. Maybe that's a way to battle Schadenfreude.

I think what I hate is the sound of his head banging off the wall.

I'm waiting to have a bit of schadenfreude but Bertie, Cowen, Dempsey, Harney and them all are too busy enjoying their fat pensions for bolloxing up the country... Can you order it online???

I thought schadenfreude was more about when misfortune strikes your enemies, or people you dislike.

The guy who bangs his head: I see it and think, Ouch! I don't laugh my ass off at it.

But there was once a guy at work I didn't like, he was mean to me. Then he slipped up over something else and got in a bit of hot water. I was secretly pleased.

I don't find videos of people in pain funny, nor do I laugh if anyone I know falls. I just don't like to see people in pain. I try to avoid those videos.

I will laugh freely if a relative or friend trips or goofs up in some way, a regrettable trait my big sister instilled in me. But I would never take pleasure in serious pain or misfortune.

There's that. Someone says how they emailed the wrong person with something embarrassing, you giggle. Someone says they have cancer (for example), you get upset. The little things can make you laugh, but not the big problems.

Gore Vidal famously said about success: "It is not enough to succeed; others must fail." But he was a bitch and, haha, he's dead.

I laugh when people fall, I can't help it. I think it's a very basic instinct, babies break their shite laughing if you pretend to hurt yourself etc. I must be very unevolved.
