Going Out On Your Own

# 1 : Monday 30-12-2013 @ 18:39

Last night I headed to a gig on my own, I like going out not knowing who is going to be there and talking to strangers (though some of them can be very strange).

Do you go out to the pub/gigs/cinema/dinner on your own? or do you need to know someone there to feel comfortable?

I go to the cinema on my own all the time. So much so that I now find it weird to go to the cinema with people now. I find it relaxing to go on my own and get to sit and enjoy the film without people around me talking and so forth.

As for going anywhere else on my own...nope. The cinema is fine on my own as it's something you can enjoy by yourself. Pubs, gigs, dinner etc all have a sort of social element to them i.e. people around you talking and laughing the whole time and since I'm absolutely brutal at talking to strangers (even shop assistants scare me) it's not something I could really do.
I have gone to gigs on my own though periodically and during the gig it's fine as you just enjoy the music but it's the before and the interval bit that I don't like as you tend to stand out like a sore thumb when you are on you own at these things. I even got accosted by a drunk drag queen at a Britney concert one time and had to be saved by a rather nice woman and her friend.

I go to places on my own all the time, cinema, gigs, festivals, even long weekends away.

I don't mind at all, I like my own company and sometimes you meet interesting people.

Especially with gigs, not many people share my tastes so I'd be missing out on loads of gigs if I didn't go alone.

That said, very often it's more enjoyable to go with someone.

That's how I feel Frodo, I enjoy my own company but am a huge talker so usual have met a few people before the end of the night. The only thing that is annoying when I go out alone is the amount of times people ask me what I do for a living.

I used to go out on my own a lot, but don't as much now since I got in a serious relationship. My boyfriend doesn't really do alone time apart from the odd trip to the cinema. So he finds it odd that I want to do something on my own and gets the hump if I don't include him.

Luckily Herself is the opposite, Penny, she's not a big fan of going out and prefers that I go out on my own than drag her with me.

Was at an early evening event for new years this evening - a sort of Dublin Late Late only interesting. (Was the only one who knew the lryrics to the songs from one peformer, including Under Clery's Clock.) Would have been nicer with a pal, but it wasn't ehir scene.

Hope to get out more on my own in 2014. I don't generally go out to pubs and that probably won't change but there's other things going on around the country.
