Either greenman or zig started this topic just a couple of months ago! Surprisingly didn't really take off.

This guy..

"When Frank Crowe died in 1946 the American Society of Civil Engineers published a memorial essay outlining his life and achievements. Crowe still loomed large in the public mind a decade after he completed his career's crowning project: Hoover Dam. The society wrote: "His projects will stand forever as monuments to his great ability as a constructor, but he will be best remembered by his many friends and close associates for his ever-present human understanding, his extreme fair-mindedness, his wonderful sense of humor, and his absolute integrity -- once his word was given it was carried out, no matter what his personal sacrifices might be."

"His projects will stand forever as monuments to his great ability as a constructor"

Very inspiring words to me anyway

I read that as Chef Joseph, so thought it was an Indian restaurant you were talking about.

I quite like this lady. Beautiful and brainy, she invented
an early version of spread spectrum communications and frequency hopping. We wouldn't have wireless without her.

Strange, a lecturer asked the class to name out some of our Heroes last week.
I drew a total blank.

Never had any. Just never been impressed enough on the human level to deem any one person a hero...

One of my literary heroes is John Irving, I went to see him speak in Dun Laoighaire on Tuesday. I wasn't sure what to expect but he was warm and funny, and so clued in. An informed and educated opinion on so many subjects is so wonderful to come across because so many share opinions that are so ill informed! So I guess I don't agree that you shouldn't meet your heroes.
