Litter Nation

There was somewhat on the news recently about Dublin not being a very clean city. I hear that most litter, now is sweet wrappers.
I was recently walking through Galway city, and the amount of rubbish strewn about is somewhat, ugly. What is wrong with people that when they've used something that they discard the packaging without a whim to the environment or pride?

I know, wind. Wind probably tore the supermacs carton out of their hands and onto the street. Or they accidently rolled down the window and the wind took and shook their trash all over the road.

I can't blame the youth. They are led by example. I've seen oldsters walking along the street and casually drop a cornetto wrapper while walking along happily slurping their Ice Cream.

There have been a few times, I've walked through Kennedy Square and picked up a discarded Dunnes paper bag, or a half filled can of lager, and thrown it into a bin.

I've been given funny looks. Some even looked away in shame. Only a few, mind.
Or maybe I was imagining things.

Growing up I was taught to put any rubbish into a bag, or my pocket and bin it responsibly. It's a lesson I learned very young.

Are we a litter nation?

Why they can't teach kids, about this in schools and forget the parents. I do not know, one hour a week and recycling projects are a good education. Maybe, if they pray hard enough and wear a cross? God will pick it up and keep us clean?

Yes we most definitely are a litter nation...

Most schools do work hard to promote awareness, they encourage children to get involved in projects ect...
Without the support of parents, the message gets lost...
Have lost count of the times I have watched kids drop rubbish, and this was ignored by parents...

Young adults in my area, are by far the most notorious offenders, fast food wrappers, cans and smashed glass...
The local council work tirelessly to clean their mess up, but sadly it's a hard battle..

Yet we rather educate kids, about him and with taxpayers money. We can't teach them respect, civics and proper behaviour in society? I don't have a chip, just pointing out more wastage and stupidity in our systems. But I suppose, I do have a chip and it must be true because you said so!

I was walking home from dinner this evening and someone had done a shite and then smeared it all over a wall. I wonder what kind of fine would you get for that.

Yuck! On my way home, someone had thrown a dirty diaper onto a hedge on the side of the road.

We have had a tidy towns group operating in the city centre for the last 3 years down this way and you can really see the difference.

I'm on a walking trail, promoted by various agencies and you should see the filth on the road!
