The key is preparation, do a proper shop, bulk make meals and always bring your lunch to work. This means you know what went into what your eating and you're less likely to buy a shitty sandwich from the local Spar. I wouldn't recommend a low fat diet though, try using proper fats like butter and olive oil and then reduce the portions. Swap carbs for vegetables whenever you can. I use aubergine in my lasagna rather than pasta, I make pizza and rice with cauliflower and I use almond flour to make spicy Chinese chicken, it's the same as what I would get from the takeaway on the corner.
You will lose weight gradually and you won't feel like your missing out either.
