12 Or 13 Days Of Christmas?

# 1 : Saturday 19-12-2015 @ 12:01

If Christmas lasts from December 25 to January 6, there are 13 days of Christmas, not 12.

Which day is not actually one of the twelve? Why?

The twelve days in the song are the twelve days starting with Christmas Day, or in some traditions, the day after Christmas (December 26) (Boxing Day or St. Stephen's Day)

I'm more bothered by the fact that the immaculate conception happened on the 8th December and she gave birth 17 days later

Wasn't the birth celebrated in September but eventually moved to December because of Saturnalia/ Yule/ solstice etc

That's because the immaculate conception was when she was conceived, not Jesus.

That doesn't explain it, Mr LMGTFY.

I wonder if perhaps the traditional twelve days are 25th to the 5th, and then Epiphany is a separate feast in itself? Of course, the season of Christmas lasts until February 2nd, but that's a whole other debate.

It does, actually. They start counting from the 26th, not the 25th, so it's one day less.

Anyway, traditions vary. Some count from the 25th until the eve of the 6th, so the 5th. Again, 12 days.

I liaison daily with a civil servant who is Armenian and will not be at work for two days this month due to the bank holidays etc - he was explaining how his Christmas is the 6th of January so will be taking that week off.

Personally I would rather that week off then the one coming

Christians hijacked the Winter Pagan celebrations, like they did with Rome and God would want to leave married women alone!

I always thought that it was when she found out she was pregnant.

So when does that happen?

The 6th? Wouldn't it end at midnight?
