Your Comfort Food

# 1 : Wednesday 10-2-2016 @ 15:09

What is your comfort food? The food that might remind you of your mother's home cooking, the "go to" food when you want to be reminded of happy times.

Mine would be cream of tomato soup, roast chicken, stuffing, roast potatoes and gravy, mashed potatoes, home made beef burgers and beef casserole.

Comfort food and my mother's home cooking are two different things (she boiled everything and I hated it).

For me, it's a lovely homemade chili with lots of fresh ingredients and a big bag of doritos to scoop it all up with.

I made a huge pot yesterday and had it with Tortilla chips. No cheese though.
Was feckin lovely because I used a massive load of fresh chillies.

Is that enough Bird Eye and Scotch bonnet for you?
I put a jar of jalapenos in later on, for good measure.

I made the lasagne as Penny suggested, replacing pasta with aubergines, family have had it three times since, fast becoming our Winter comfort food

Real nice fluffy and hot pastries, French style (not the horrid Tesco crap or Irish bakery fake custard).

I'm going to make potato dauphinoise this evening topped with parmesan cheese. Absolute comfort food!

Almost everything I eat is comfort food.
(what I mean by that is)

I rarely eat for nutritional value only, I always eat "what I want" and I find that tends to make my diet more balanced.
I find that for someone with my psychology, it's more important to not mindlessly comfort eat, or over eat.

The only down side to this is availability.
While I eat everything, if I'm in the mood for something fresh (some salad, or greenery) it's often difficult to get something that isn't cooked (hot food) after 5pm in the day, or something that isn't fast food, after 11pm.

It's as if you need to eat your fresh greens "early" becasue that's the only time you can actually order them fresh. Bringing lunches with you is really off putting becasue things wilt in hot cars and sandwiches go all smushy. The best kind of food to bring with you is food that's again, not really good for you; bags of crisps or empty, crispy carbs with token amounts of greenery.

I'd much rather have my junk food, my dinners, my hot snacks, early in the day, and my greens and salads late at night or after gigs. But that's completely unrealistic in the world of late nights and long travelling that I find myself living in.
