Gay Men and woman in denial who married in the hope they would become straight will now have the courage to come out of their closets.

Not necessarily. For example the costs of divorce and child custody battles would deter many.

I agree with you, but are you saying it's a good thing or a bad thing? also, I doubt the numbers would be anything more then a "splash in the ocean" to the numbers of divorces we see today anyways.

It takes a lot of courage to come to terms with who you are as a person, and if someone erroneously marries at a young age and subsequently discovers they are gay, it's better for everyone all round in the long run that they face facts and sort out their affairs.

If the availability of gay marriages causes straight marriages to break up then those unions ought never to have been solemnized in the first instance.

True. But gay marriage now allows the person who made the mistake of marrying a man or a woman to finally face up to the denial of being a gay person.

I sometimes put up a profile of various sites looking for a genuine romance/relationship...(usually a waste of time) and I continue to be gobsmacked by the amount to young guys who recently married and now like a bolt from the blue are realising they may be gay....the've as much as said so themselves.

its a big mental health time bomb and no one is really articulating this aspect when talking about men's depresssion

Not really a 'hetro' marriage though is it, when one / possibly two are LGBT+.

Since intimacy, sex and sexuality is integral to marriage, a lesbian or gay person cannot be in a mixed-sex marriage: such a 'marriage' is based on false premise, a pretence, and is in truth not a genuine marriage.

Indeed. Glad someone has pointed out the obvious AND pointed out that perhaps the person is bisexual! Rather than all these assumptions about only being gay!!

yes, but Im thinking about those gay people (not bisexuals) who are married in a hetro marriage and who realise later that they have made a mistake.....there are an awful lot of them in loveless marriages....that is the main point of my post.

Is the term heterosexual marriage a misnomer if one or both are not straight? Do we call them opposite sex marriages?
